Ready to trade on the global markets?
As a Trader for International Food Connectors, you’re going to create and develop your own client portfolio in the Chinese seafood market, a market in which we’re proficient. You will be working closely together with our Buyers, who’re responsible for purchasing the goods. To build and maintain a strong relationship with your current and potential clients, you'll be travelling several weeks a year to visit companies in China. Attending expos around the world, together with your colleagues, is part of the job as well.
For this position, we're looking for candidates with an excellent command of the Chinese (Mandarin) and English language.

About the job
As a Trader you’re going to be responsible for developing our client portfolio in China by expanding our business and maintaining relations with our clients. An important part of the role is to visit your current and potential clients each quarter, and to join your colleagues at expos; International Food Connectors can be regularly found on international expos, e.g. the Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami, the Seafood Expo in Barcelona and the Americas Expo in Guatemala. Depending on your client focus and the commodity you’re trading in, you’re attending these expos.
- Developing new business by actively reaching out to (potential) clients in China via phone, WhatsApp and mail
- Negotiating contracts and prices
- Building and maintaining your client portfolio
- Working closely together with your colleagues from the Logistics and Finance department to manage your business
- Actively managing your debtors / outstanding invoices
- Following the market trends and use these in your advantage
About us
This role is part of our Trading team (15 colleagues (and counting)). Thomas van Vugt is the Asian team’s manager and hiring manager for this vacancy. Our Trading team is divided into Purchase and Sales, this means you’re working closely together with one of the Buyers to close the deal. Trading is our core business and the company’s most fast-paced department.
The International Food Connectors office currently has 30 colleagues spread across the departments of Trading, Logistics, HR, and Finance. With team members from diverse countries like Vietnam, China, Colombia, Spain, France, and Argentina, you’ll be part of a truly multicultural environment where English is the go-to language. This global, energetic vibe is what makes our workplace so special.
Our office is in a prime location in Rotterdam, Kop van Zuid, near the Erasmus Bridge. It has recently been expanded and offers plenty of space, comfortable workplaces, and opportunities to relax. The tram and metro stop right at the door, and there are various coffee bars, lunch spots, and supermarkets nearby.
Our offer
- A gross monthly starting salary of € 2.500 - € 3.500 (based on 40 hours), depending on your knowledge and experience + 8% holiday allowance
- Attractive and transparent bonus scheme, starting at day one. Fully based on your margin and paid quarterly.

Job requirements
About you
We’re looking for a Trader with some experience in commodity trading, preferably in the Asian market. Someone with the right energy level and sales drive. Competences matching this position are (among others) resistance to stress, discipline, resilience, flexibility and customer focus. English is our working language. Besides this, we’re looking for someone with (near) native Chinese (Mandarin) language skills.
